Minetta Tavern, NYC — Review by Njal Ottesen

What to expect
Me and my girlfriend visited The Minetta Tavern at 113 Macdougal Street NYC early September 2019.
We first heard of the place from a Norwegian TV show called Truls á la Hellstroem, were the comedian, Truls Svendsen and the world famous chef Eivinnd Helstroem travel theworld and make food.
The Minetta is the chefs favouritt burgerplace in NYC, and then especially the «Black label burger".
We arrived there a Monday evening just when they opened. Fantastic atmosphere and the place filled up with guests pretty fast.
Burger
I ate grilled oysters for starters, and then the famous Black Label burger as a maincourse. The burger was the reason for the visit!
The meat was so thick, juicy and tender. It meltet on my tounge. I order it medium rear, and it was perfect.
On top of the meat there was a pile of Caramelized onion. It's made of a selection of prime dry aged beef cuts. So simple, so tasty, so juicy and you could really taste the flavour of the meat. This burger is definetly the best burger i ever had.
Bun
The bread was fresh and crunchy and we got a lot of fries on the side.
Cheese
The Black Label keeps the focus on dry-aged beef and caramelized onions; cheddar shows up more loudly on the classic Minetta Burger if you want cheese in the spotlight.
Pickles
A proper pickle rides along — spiced, sharp, necessary against all that aged beef richness.
Sauces
No special-sauce circus required. Caramelized onions do the sweet work. For dessert we had the house chocolate soufflé…..that was heaven. This place filles up fast, so order a table. I will definatly be back here for this burger the next time i visit NYC.
